Description: This course will provide real-world support and guidance in your work with students in poverty. Improve your effectiveness by learning the "hidden rules" of poverty, poverty-related behavior, and appropriate interventions. Explore practical yet compassionate strategies for addressing poverty and its impact on your students' lives. |
Objectives:
- The participant shall understand the difference between formal register and casual register, why each is used, and when each is appropriate.
- The participant shall learn the hidden rules of poverty.
- The participant shall learn how school processes, rules, and procedures can inadvertently exclude students in poverty.
- The participant shall examine his/her own classroom/school policies and determine which tend to exclude students in poverty.
- The participant will design an action plan to improve the areas identified in #4, in order to more fully include and welcome all students.
